About Summer '96

Summer ’96 began as a challenge: give three AI models (GPT-6.1, Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra) the same concept images and ask each to recreate a nostalgic summer morning in 1996 as a playable, cel-shaded 3D browser game.

Connected to 3D AI Studio and ElevenLabs through MCP, the agents generated their own 3D models, sound effects and music. The favourite of the three was then pushed further: the bedroom grew into a house where you head downstairs, grab breakfast, step outside, hop on your bike and explore the neighborhood.

It is built with Babylon.js, without a traditional game engine, and doubles as a test of whether AI agents are a practical way to make games.

What makes it interesting

  • Three AI models given the same brief, compared side by side
  • A cel-shaded 1996 bedroom, house and neighborhood
  • Breakfast in the kitchen and a bike to ride
  • 3D models, sound effects and music generated through MCP
  • Built with Babylon.js, no traditional game engine
